Thermoplastic single-ply roofing membranes are among the fastest growing commercial roofing products and have gained broad industry acceptance for their many performance and installation advantages. As demand increases for heat-reflective and energy efficient roofing systems, thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) single-ply roofing membranes continue to provide exceptional resistance to ultraviolet, ozone and chemical exposure.

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) membranes are produced by extrusion with lamination, or extrusion-coating techniques. TPO sheets are a blend of polypropylene and ethylene propylene polymers and usually are reinforced with polyester. TPO sheets contain colorant, flame retardants, UV absorbers and other proprietary substances to achieve desired physical properties. TPO also offers design options with membranes available in reflective white, tan or gray, which can help reduce a building’s cooling requirements. White and tan TPO membranes meet the new version of the Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Commercial Buildings.
TPO Benefits
- Outstanding reflectivity for enhanced energy efficiency. White reflective surfaced exceeds the EPA ENERGY STAR® requirements and is listed with the Cool Roof Rating Council.
- Superior rooftop performance. TPO exhibits outstanding resistance to degradation from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, ozone, chemical exposure and microbial growth.
- Excellent durability and high strength. TPO’s scrim-reinforced membrane provides enhanced puncture, tear and abrasion resistance.
- Exceptional wind resistance. TPO Wide-Weld Systems provide higher wind uplift ratings than traditional single-weld systems.
- Simple and economical installation. Heat-welded seams form a homogeneous bond by fusing the top and bottom sheets together. The seams actually are stronger than the membrane itself.
Same as EPDM, TPO Systems are available in Ballasted, Mechanically Attached, and Fully Adhered.

Standard TPO System sandwich:
1. TPO membrane,
2. Fastening element for thermal insulation,
3. Fastening element for TPO membrane,
4. Thermo insulation,
5. Vapor insulation,
6. Corrugated board,
7. Roof beam.
